Suspect Still on the Loose After Double Murder in Nassau

Hempstead (WALK) - The search continues today for whoever gunned down two men on a Long Island street yesterday, in broad deadline.

Police in Nassau say two young men were gunned down on Belmont Parkway in Hempstead around 1 PM. Officers thought the gunman ran into a nearby house, and spent the next 12 hours in a stand-off after surrounding the place. They went inside early Tuesday morning, however, and did not find a suspect there.

Detectives have not released the names of the two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, where doctors could not save him.

Authorities are not saying yet if they know what the gunman's motive might have been.
