Central Islip (WALK) - He was once a respected physician, but now Dr. Eric Jacobson is looking at a sentence of seven to nine years in prison.
As expected, Jacobson pleaded guilty yesterday to illegally prescribing addictive painkillers like oxycodone and hydrocodone to 19 patients he knew were either abusing the drugs or selling them to addicts. Jacobson, 51, will be sentenced to 7 to 9 years in prison under a plea deal. He'll also get three years of supervised release and will have to forfeit $250,000 to the government.
Jacobson was arrested after his office in Great Neck was raided in 2011.
His clients included David Laffer, the gunman who slaughtered four people in the 2011 Medford pharmacy massacre, and Laffer's wife, Melinda Brady. Both are currently serving prison sentences.
