No Arrests Yet After Weekend Hit-and-Run on Montauk Highway

Patchogue (WALK) - The search continues today for the hit-and-run driver who put a pedestrian in the hospital early Sunday morning.

Police say Walter Orlando Matute Penaranda of Patchogue was crossing Montauk Highway near Bay Avenue, east of Route 112, when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. It happened just before 4:30 AM.

Penaranda, 24, is in critical condition after having emergency surgery at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

Witnesses describe the car as a gray or silver two-door sedan with a rear spoiler, possibly an older model Honda. There may be more witnesses in cars that passed by the accident scene, according to police.

Anyone who may have seen the crash or the car involved is asked to call anonymously to Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
