Father & Son Supplement Co. to Cease Operations

Farmingdale - (WALK) A father and son vitamin and supplement business is closed for good after a long-running federal investigation into adulterated and dangerous products manufactured at a plant in Farmingdale, including mislabeled items containing steroids.

At least two dozen people became sickened with symptoms of steroid overdose after consuming supplements manufactured by Michael S. Ragno Sr. and Michael S. Ragno Jr. at their Mira Health Products, Ltd. facility on East Carmans Road.

The pair recently acknowledged they were aware their products were adulterated and contained steroids.  They also agreed to cease operations and stay out of the supplement business unless their products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a consent decree issued by the U.S. District Court, Eastern Division.

The Ragno's company produced private-label stock for several companies.  The FDA recalled Purity b-50 after more than 24 consumers mysteriously began to experience steroid-related symptoms such as hair loss, breast enlargement, elevated cholesterol levels, and disrupted menstrual cycles.

A Doctor at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset found the common denominator among the victims, and FDA tests confirmed the steroid connection to Purity and to Mira Health Products.Photo: Ragesoss
