Arraignment for "Sweetheart Scammer" Monday

Arraignment for

Hauppauge - (WALK) She breaks hearts, and bank accounts.  A middle aged woman with a sketchy past will be arraigned Monday and accused of befriending elderly men, then robbing them out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Lisa Ferkovich, 47, is one of several names, --and ages, for the suspect who took advantage of at least four men in our area, including a North Babylon man she robbed of approximately $500,000. Frekovich, recently of Bradish Lane, Bay Shore, will be arraigned Monday and charged with grand larceny as a hate crime, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.

"The current indictment alleges crimes committed by the defendant when she befriended an 83 year old man in a North Babylon supermarket this past summer and gained his trust," said Spota.  "Our investigation found evidence she drained his bank accounts, addressed his mutual fund holdings, and rolled up $35,000 in bills using his credit cards."

In an unrelated case Ferkovich is charged with stealing the ID of another elderly man to purchase three cars, including a new Mercedes-Benz.

Spota described Ferkovich as a member of a "Traveler's" group, based in Maryland who operate in the Metro-New York area, including Long Island.  Ferkovich has used the aliases Ruby Mitchell, Lisa Sideris, and Lisa Brown to scam at least four other elderly men.

Ferkovich is being held without bail at the Suffolk County Jail, and will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
