Oceanside (WALK) - Being a bad boyfriend may not be illegal, but burglary certainly is.
That's the lesson being learned in Oceanside today, where a home break-in that netted a huge haul of cash and jewelry is being blamed on the victim's boyfriend. Police say Jason Batista of upper Manhattan had gone to the woman's home on Waukena Avenue this past Monday to return a car he had borrowed, and when he saw she wasn't there, he allegedly went inside the house and swiped $20,000 in jewelry and $15,000 in cash from a safe inside.
Detectives believe Batista, 27, used a duplicate key to get inside.
The suspect turned himself in yesterday, and detectives say they have recovered all of the stolen cash and jewelry. Batista is scheduled to be arraigned today on burglary charges.
